Prof. Dr. Mustafa Gökçe is a distinguished academic at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, where he serves in the Department of History within the Faculty of Letters. With over two decades of academic experience, he specializes in Turkish history, Central Asian studies, and the cultural history of Turkic peoples.
Dr. Gökçe received his undergraduate education at Ankara University's Faculty of Language, History and Geography, Department of History (1995-1999), followed by his Master's degree in General Turkish History from Ankara University's Institute of Social Sciences (1999-2001). He completed his doctorate in the same field at Ankara University (2001-2007).
His research interests span Turkish history, Central Asian history, Caspian region studies, Silk Road history, Turkic peoples' history, energy politics, historical geography, and cultural studies. His scholarly work consistently explores the connections between historical developments and contemporary geopolitical realities, particularly focusing on the Turkic world from Central Asia to Anatolia.
Dr. Gökçe's extensive publication record demonstrates a clear evolution from traditional historical research toward interdisciplinary studies that incorporate archaeology, cultural anthropology, and energy geopolitics. His recent works increasingly focus on material culture, rock art, and rescue excavations, reflecting a growing interest in archaeological evidence as historical source material.
As an academic advisor, Dr. Gökçe has supervised numerous doctoral and master's students whose research focuses on Turkic history, Central Asian studies, and Anatolian cultural heritage. His students have conducted research on topics ranging from Hunnic urban planning to Yörük cultural practices in southwestern Anatolia.
Dr. Gökçe has been involved in significant research projects including the 'Traces of Ancient Turkish Beliefs in the Muğla Region' and 'Traces of Ancient Turkish Beliefs in the Tunceli Region,' as well as international collaborations such as the 'Common Turkish History Curriculum' project. His fieldwork has particularly focused on documenting pre-Islamic Turkish beliefs and related material culture elements in Muğla and surrounding regions.
