Murray Forman is a Professor in the College of Arts, Media and Design at Northeastern University. His work focuses on hip-hop culture, media studies, and the intersection of race and representation. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from McGill University (1997).
His research explores hip-hop’s sociocultural impact, popular music’s role in early television, and the cultural politics of urban representation. Key publications include The ‘Hood Comes First (2002), One Night on TV... (2012), and co-edited volumes like That’s the Joint! (2004, 2012).
- Awards: Resident Fellow at Harvard’s Hip-Hop Archive (2013), Volkswagen Foundation Fellowship (2003–2004), NEH Fellowship (2002), and Whiting Foundation Fellowship (1998).
