Murad Alam, MD is Vice-Chair of Dermatology and Chief of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. He holds professorships in Dermatology, Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Surgery (Organ Transplantation), and Medical Social Sciences (Outcome and Measurement Science).

Dr. Alam's research focuses on clinical trials for safer skin cancer treatments, laser and cosmetic procedures, multicenter cohort studies for rare nonmelanoma skin cancers, patient perception analysis, and methodological work on clinical practice guidelines. He also investigates peer review processes and evidence-based medicine in healthcare systems.
His recent publications highlight safety evaluations of minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, barriers to dermatologic research funding, and development of standardized outcome measures for clinical trials. These align with his expertise in skin cancer, laser surgery, and medical methodology.

As an editor of Archives of Dermatological Research and associate editor for multiple journals, Dr. Alam has significantly influenced dermatologic scholarship. His leadership roles include incoming President-Elect of the American Academy of Dermatology and former presidency of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
Dr. Alam directs the CHORD-COUSIN Collaboration (C3) for core outcome sets and the CISTERN collaboration for clinical guidelines. He actively oversees the CAPER reporting platform for adverse events in cutaneous procedures and serves on critical panels including the FDA's General and Plastic Surgery Devices Panel.
