Muna Adem, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Notre Dame. Previously affiliated with the University of Maryland, College Park, she focuses on race, ethnicity, and immigration. Her research examines ethnoracial demographic changes, immigration-driven diversity, and their impacts on race relations and social cohesion in the U.S. and Europe. She employs quantitative methods, survey experiments, behavioral experiments, and mixed methods.
- Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology (Indiana University), M.S. in Applied Statistics (Indiana University), B.A. in Journalism with a Gender Studies minor (California State University, Northridge).
Key research areas include how immigration policies and advocacy organizations influence intergroup cooperation, citizenship ideologies, and perceived discrimination. Her work has been supported by grants from the University of Maryland, P.E.O. Sisterhood, and Indiana University’s CRRES.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on projects related to ethnoracial stratification and migration studies.
