Dr. Mulugeta Gebregziabher is a Professor and Vice Chair of Academic Programs at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), with a joint appointment as Research Health Scientist at the Charleston VA Medical Center. He holds affiliations with MUSC's Global Health Institute and College of Graduate Studies. He earned his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of Southern California in 2006.
His research focuses on longitudinal data analysis, missing data methodologies, health disparities, and applications in chronic diseases such as diabetes, CKD, stroke, and lung cancer. He collaborates globally on conflict health crises, particularly in Tigray, Ethiopia, studying war's impact on maternal and child health. His work bridges statistical innovation with real-world healthcare challenges, including fibrosis progression modeling and medication safety in transplant recipients.
Dr. Gebregziabher has authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles and secured over 50 grants from NIH, VA-HSR&D, and other agencies. He pioneered the Methods Core of the VA HEROIC Center and developed graduate courses in advanced regression and Bayesian analysis. His awards include ASA Fellowship and leadership roles in the Statistical Society of Ethiopians in North America.
He advises on global health initiatives through organizations like ED-REAP and the Worldwide Fistula Fund. His research consistently addresses equity gaps in healthcare access and outcomes across diverse populations.
