Muhammet Arıcan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics Education at Bogazici University's Faculty of Education. He holds a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Georgia and directs the university's Education Policy Application and Research Center. His research specializes in multiplicative/proportional reasoning, statistical cognition, and preservice teacher development, employing cognitive diagnostic models to assess mathematical understanding.
His investigations focus on identifying and addressing conceptual gaps in proportional reasoning among educators and students, utilizing innovative methods like augmented reality for geometry instruction. Arıcan actively mentors graduate researchers, advising six master's students on topics spanning STEM education integration and proportional reasoning diagnostics.
Arıcan leads national research initiatives including TÜBİTAK-funded projects on digital/STEM accessibility and interactive proportional reasoning tasks. His 15 most recent publications consistently explore mathematics pedagogy innovations, teacher competency assessments, and technology-enhanced learning strategies.
