Muhammad Hilmi Kamarudin

Dr Muhammad Hilmi Kamarudin is a Senior Lecturer in Cyber Security at the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics, part of the Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment at Oxford Brookes University. He holds a BSc in Computer Network (Universiti Putra Malaysia, 2007), MSc in Computer Network (Universiti Teknologi MARA, 2010), and PhD in Network Security (University of Warwick, 2018). With six years of industrial experience in multi-vendor network security equipment operations, his research interests focus on Machine Learning applications in Cyber Security, Digital Forensics, Cyber Crime mitigation, Network Security, and Privacy in Autonomous Vehicles.

His research explores cybersecurity challenges in connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs), including simulation of malicious attacks on VANETs and development of intrusion detection systems using machine learning. He is affiliated with the Artificial Intelligence, Data Analysis and Systems (AIDAS) Institute and the Cloud Computing and Cybersecurity (CCC) Group, contributing to projects like Authentication in VANETs and Cybersecurity of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles. His teaching includes Secure System Architecture, Malware Analysis, and Foundation of Security System Programming at the undergraduate level.

Dr. Kamarudin supervises postgraduate students such as Martin Mclean (Cyber Threat Intelligence), Sachin Kumar (Feature optimization for Malware Identification), and Safras Iqbal (Cybersecurity threats in CAVs). His publications span hybrid feature selection techniques, anomaly detection frameworks, and machine learning-based approaches to identify unseen web attacks. His work bridges theoretical advancements with real-world cybersecurity challenges in autonomous systems and network security domains.
