Dr. Muhammad Bakr Abdelghany serves as a Tenure-track Research Scientist in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Khalifa University of Science and Technology, UAE, while on leave from Minia University where he holds an Assistant Professor position. His research bridges control theory, renewable energy systems, and cyber-physical applications with emphasis on hydrogen technologies and embedded solutions.
His academic qualifications include:
- Ph.D. in Information Technologies for Engineering, University of Sannio, Italy (2022)
- M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Minia University, Egypt (2015)
- B.Sc. in Computers and Systems Engineering, Minia University, Egypt (2010)
Dr. Abdelghany's research integrates Control Systems (MPC, optimal control, embedded implementations), Green Hydrogen Production, and Cyber-Physical Systems with advanced Modeling and Simulation of energy infrastructure. His work on hydrogen storage, mini-grids, and formal verification methods addresses critical challenges in renewable energy transition and industrial automation, significantly impacting hydrogen and control systems communities.
His scientific recognition includes:
- Outstanding Reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy (2023)
- Outstanding Reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering (2024)
With 15 supervised/co-supervised graduate students, Dr. Abdelghany leads international projects (HAEOLUS, H2GLASS, H2STEEL) through industry partnerships with Emirates Global Aluminium, Emirates Steel Arkan, and Ohmium International. His collaborations extend to Masdar and Etihad Rail for transportation-energy integration, and with KU/TU Dortmund on energy infrastructure optimization tools. He actively contributes to Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and Arctic Circle initiatives through the Emirates Polar Program.
Current initiatives include establishing an Abu Dhabi-based consulting startup for energy simulation tools and developing novel Ph.D. research pathways in renewable energy systems at Khalifa University.
