Muhammad Aamir Cheema is an Associate Professor and Director of Research at the Department of Software Systems and Cybersecurity, Faculty of Information Technology, Monash University, Australia. He holds an ARC Future Fellowship and serves as founder and co-director of the Monash Urban Computing Lab.
His research centers on Urban Computing for sustainable cities, leveraging data management and analytics to develop inclusive, safe, and resilient urban systems aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal 11. Key focus areas include:
- Data Management and Analytics for spatiotemporal urban data
- Cloud and Edge Computing infrastructure
- Sustainable Transportation using electric vehicles and bidirectional charging
- Smart Building systems through indoor data management
- Digital Twins for emission reduction simulations
- Road safety optimization via big data analytics
Dr. Cheema has received significant recognition including:

The Monash Urban Computing Lab under his direction integrates interdisciplinary teams to develop data-driven solutions for transportation, building management, and city-wide sustainability challenges.
