His research focuses on improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and stem cell transplantation. He holds a Docent degree from Karolinska Institutet (1994) and has been a Senior Professor since 2019.
Research interests include cancer and oncology, particularly ERα signaling in breast cancer, busulfan-related toxicities in hematopoietic cell transplantation, and novel drug delivery systems for cancer therapy. He leads studies on extracellular vesicles, nanomedicine applications, and immunomodulatory therapies.
Publications span advanced materials science, cancer biology, and translational medicine. Key themes include:
- Mechanisms of endoplasmic reticulum stress in cancer progression
- Therapeutic strategies for liver and blood cancers
- Immunotherapy advancements using CAR T-cells and mesenchymal stromal cells
Notable contributions include work on X-ray fluorescence imaging for drug distribution, miRNA-based therapies for hepatocellular carcinoma, and clinical insights into hemorrhagic cystitis post-transplantation.
Labs include the Experimental Cancer Medicine (ECM) group within the Division of Biomolecular and Cellular Medicine (BCM), focusing on interdisciplinary cancer research.
