Dr. Motonari UESUGI is a Professor and Deputy Director at Kyoto University's Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS) and Institute for Chemical Research. He serves as Associate Executive Vice President of Research at the university. After postdoctoral training at Harvard University, he began his independent career at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston), where he established an interdisciplinary chemical biology laboratory. He moved to Kyoto University as a full professor in 2005. His research focuses on understanding biological processes through small-molecule studies. Notably, he pioneered Japan's first edX course, "The Chemistry of Life," to globalize chemical education.
