Morten Hammerborg

Morten Hammerborg is a Professor of History at the Department of Pedagogy, Religion and Social Sciences, University of Bergen. His work focuses on Norwegian urban history, local governance, and the intersection of social sciences with historical analysis.

Research interests: Hammerborg specializes in the historiography of Norwegian cities, particularly Bergen and Haugesund, with a focus on post-war urbanization, cultural identity, and institutional histories. His publications include detailed analyses of academic institutions and their roles in public health and education.

His recent books, such as Bergenseren – en historisk analyse (2020), Byen som gikk i land: Haugesund bys historie etter 1950 (2017), and Veien til Haukeland (2019, co-authored with Teemu Ryymin), highlight trends in urban development and institutional evolution. These works emphasize interdisciplinary approaches, combining historical narratives with social science methodologies.

Hammerborg also contributes to public discourse through a regular column in Bergensavisen titled "Ka e det med Bergen?" since 2017, bridging academic research with community engagement.
