Morten Christoffersen is a Research Assistant at the Department of Communication and Psychology within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Aalborg University. He is a behavioral psychologist whose work focuses on individual differences in human needs and personality traits. Previously, he completed his PhD studies at Aarhus University and worked as a clinical psychologist at the Centre for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Aarhus University Hospital. His primary research investigates how individual differences, including intelligence and reinforcement sensitivity, shape treatment outcomes, well-being, and loneliness.
Christoffersen's educational background includes doctoral training at Aarhus University where his thesis is currently under assessment. His clinical experience at Aarhus University Hospital provided practical foundation for his research interests. He has taught a 15 ECTS course titled 'A Behavioral Approach to Psychological Theory and Psychotherapy' at Aarhus University and delivered lectures on developmental psychology topics.
His research centers on behavioral psychology and personality psychology, with specific interest in reinforcement sensitivity theory, social drives, and individual differences in treatment response. Christoffersen is actively involved in the 'Best for Us' project (2024-2029), which examines collaboration between psychiatric services and municipalities to improve accessible treatment options for children and adolescents. He advocates for greater adoption of behavioral psychology methods in Denmark, noting that only about 12% of Danish psychologists use behavioral methods as primary tools compared to 54% for cognitive therapy.
Christoffersen's recent publications demonstrate his focus on primary social drives, reinforcement sensitivity, psychotherapy outcomes for older clients, family relationships, and deprivation patterns. His work consistently connects theoretical behavioral psychology with practical clinical applications to advance personalized treatment approaches.
He has previously supervised master's theses but is currently unavailable for supervision. Christoffersen also contributes to the Danish National Encyclopedia as an editor and author for behavioral psychology entries. His research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being, particularly through his work on mental health interventions and understanding social determinants of psychological outcomes.
