Mortan Janusarson Thomsen is a Lecturer and Programme Leader in Mathematics at the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of the Faroe Islands. He holds an M.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Copenhagen and has been affiliated with the university since August 2021 as an external lecturer, transitioning to a full lecturer role in May 2022.
- Education: Master of Science in Mathematics (University of Copenhagen, 2018), Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (University of Copenhagen, 2015)
Research Interests: His primary focus lies in differential geometry, particularly on manifolds and sheaves, with applications in machine learning (Geometric Deep Learning), cryptography (post-quantum), and graph theory. Additional interests include operator algebras, C*-algebras, and numerical modeling.
Teaching: Coordinates mathematics courses for programs in Mathematics, Engineering, Marine Engineering, and Software Engineering. Courses include Advanced Analysis, Discrete Mathematics, Euclidean Geometry, Linear Algebra, and Project in Mathematics.
Research Trends: Recent work connects differential geometry to cohomology theory, as seen in his 2022 poster on the De Rham Theorem. He also explores intersections with machine learning and post-quantum cryptography.
Activities: Participated in conferences like "Learning on Graphs" (2022) and organized events including "NVD 50 ár" (2022).
