Dr. Morshed Mannan is a Lecturer in Global Law and Digital Technology at the University of Edinburgh's School of Law, affiliated with the Edinburgh Centre for International and Global Law. He holds an LLB (Hons.) from Warwick, LLM (Adv.) from Leiden (cum laude), and a PhD from Leiden University (2022). His research focuses on blockchain governance, cooperative governance, and democratic firm structures within the platform economy. He previously served as a postdoctoral Research Fellow at the European University Institute’s BlockchainGov ERC project and has held roles at institutions like The New School and the University of Cambridge.
His expertise spans blockchain legal frameworks, corporate governance, workers’ rights in digital platforms, and decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs). Notable contributions include co-authoring a MIT Press book on Blockchain Governance and the COALA DAO Model Law (2022), which influenced legislation in Utah and New Hampshire. He advises international bodies such as the European Commission, OECD, UNIDROIT, and UN DESA on cooperative law, governance, and digital regulation.
Mannan’s work bridges law and technology, addressing regulatory challenges in emerging digital ecosystems. He participates in global initiatives like UNIDROIT/FAO/IFAD’s Collaborative Legal Structures project and is a member of the Coalition of Automated Legal Applications (COALA). His research outputs span leading journals and book chapters, exploring topics like blockchain constitutionalism, regulatory equivalence, and cooperative digital economies.
