معرفی
Michele Morgante is a Full Professor of Genetics at the University of Udine and Scientific Director of the Istituto di Genomica Applicata in Udine, a genome sequencing and analysis center he helped establish. He previously held positions at DuPont Crop Genomics and served as Vice-Rector for Research and Technology Transfer at the University of Udine (2008-2013) and President of the Italian Society of Agricultural Genetics (2015-2017).
- Education:
- University of Padova
- University of Udine
His research focuses on plant genome analysis, including sequencing, evolution studies, and epigenomics. He has pioneered genetic technology platforms now widely used in plant genomic research, with notable achievements such as the first reports on nuclear/chloroplast microsatellites, the first maize genome physical map, structural hypervariation analyses, and adoption of the pan-genome model for plant genomes.
Scientific awards include the prestigious ERC Advanced Grant (2011), Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei membership (2007), and the Accademia delle Scienze 'dei XL' medal (2005). He has also contributed to scientific communities as Section Editor of BMC Genetics and former Associate Editor for multiple plant science journals.
