Morgan Wack is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Zurich’s Department of Communication & Media Research (IKMZ). His research focuses on the intersection of information technologies, political influence, and disinformation, particularly in authoritarian contexts and electoral systems. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Washington and has held roles including Research Assistant Professor at Clemson University’s Media Forensics Hub and Research Associate at the University of Washington’s Center for an Informed Public.
His work explores how governments and actors use AI, disinformation, and propaganda to shape voter perceptions, with recent projects analyzing the role of elections as consensus signals in authoritarian regimes and Russian sportswashing strategies post-Ukraine invasion. He has contributed to datasets like ElectionRumors2022 and pioneered interventions like Social Truth Queries to combat misinformation in Kenya.
Publications highlight themes such as AI-generated propaganda’s societal impact, electoral misinformation mitigation strategies, and the intersection of race and sports discourse. Awards include a Best Paper Award at the 3rd ACM SIGCAS Conference on Computing and Sustainable Societies (2020).
Morgan has affiliations with institutions including the IPIE Scientific Panel, the Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life, and the Political Economy Forum. His career spans research in sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and Latin America, alongside prior NGO work addressing developmental challenges in health, education, and youth entrepreneurship.
