Morgan Carpenter is an Associate Professor of Practice at Sydney Health Ethics, University of Sydney, specializing in bioethics, human rights, and healthcare policy. He holds a PhD in bioethics from the University of Sydney and is Executive Director of InterAction for Health and Human Rights, a charity advocating for intersex rights. His work focuses on ethical healthcare for individuals with innate variations of sex characteristics (intersex variations), addressing medical and social policy reforms.
Education: PhD in Bioethics (University of Sydney), prior studies in multiple fields including bioethics.
Research interests include:
- Intersex human rights and ethical healthcare practices
- Epistemic injustice in medical systems
- Community-led healthcare models
- Health policy integration with human rights frameworks
Current projects include the Interconnect Health initiative, a $5M Medical Research Future Fund project developing care models for intersex individuals, involving partnerships with Canberra Health Services, multiple universities, and community organizations. This project includes clinical care evaluations, national health surveys, and bioethical framework development.
Grants: Lead investigator on the $4,991,065 Interconnect Health project (2024–2029).
Labs/Teams: Sydney Health Ethics, InterAction for Health and Human Rights, and collaborations across Australian universities and healthcare providers. He chairs the ACT Restricted Medical Treatment Assessment Board and advises the NSW LGBTIQ+ Advisory Council.
