Mordechai Segev is a Distinguished University Professor and the Trudy and Norman Louis Professor of Physics at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel. He holds B.Sc. and D.Sc. degrees from the Technion and previously held positions at Caltech and Princeton University. His research focuses on nonlinear optics, solitons, lasers, and quantum electronics, with notable discoveries including photorefractive solitons, random-phase solitons, 2D lattice solitons, and experimental demonstration of Anderson localization.
Research interests encompass optical solitons, laser physics, quantum electronics, and disordered photonic systems. His pioneering work bridges fundamental physics with experimental applications in photonics.
Professor Segev has received numerous prestigious awards including the Max Born Award, Quantum Electronics Prize, and European Research Council Advanced Grant. He is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America and American Physical Society, and has served in leadership roles for international conferences and editorial boards including Optics Letters.
He mentors graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, with many advisees now holding faculty positions globally at institutions including MIT, Princeton, and National Taiwan University.
