Monique van Oers

Prof. Monique van Oers is a full professor of Virology and Chair Holder of the Laboratory of Virology at Wageningen University. Her career spans over two decades, beginning with a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Wageningen University (1994). She held postdoctoral positions at Leiden and Utrecht Universities before returning to Wageningen in 1999. She became an assistant professor in 2006, associate professor in 2010, and full professor in 2013.

Her research focuses on insect viruses, functional genomics of baculoviruses, and behavioral manipulation of insects by viruses. She leads the EU-funded INSECT DOCTORS (MCSA-2019-ITN) program training insect pathologists for mass-rearing industries and the NWO-TTW BACFREE project improving baculovirus expression systems. She also coordinates molecular virology education and biotechnology applications.

Prof. van Oers serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Virology (American Society of Microbiology) and MDPI INSECTS, and holds leadership roles in the Society of Invertebrate Pathology. Her expertise spans molecular biology, entomopathogens, and vaccine development with applications in insect control and biotechnology.
