Dr. Mills's research explores narrative assessment and code-switching in bidialectal children, emphasizing educational equity. Her projects investigate AAE dialect density effects on narrative perception, eye-gaze patterns in language disorders, and social capital's role in language development. Recent publications highlight linguistic profiling in employability and speech disfluencies in bidialectal contexts.
She has received the Teaching Excellence Award (2024), NIH grants for language processing studies, and recognition as one of 1,000 Inspiring Black Scientists (2021). Her lab collaborates nationally to advance equitable clinical practices and community engagement.
