Monique Deveaux is Professor and Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Ethics & Global Social Change at the University of Guelph, where she co-directs the Grounded & Engaged Theory (GET) Lab. Her research addresses structural injustice, poverty, and the justice claims of marginalized groups through frameworks of political responsibility and solidarity.
Deveaux's influential work advocates for centering the perspectives of poor-led social movements in poverty eradication efforts. She has published extensively on multiculturalism, feminist ethics, and deliberative democracy, challenging conventional philosophical approaches to global justice.
She has supervised numerous graduate students in political philosophy and normative ethics, with research projects examining transnational feminist solidarity, water ethics, and nonhuman political agency. Her co-founded Engaged Theory Community connects political philosophers doing grounded normative work worldwide.
