Monika Buscher is a Professor of Sociology at Lancaster University, where she serves as Associate Director in the Centre for Mobilities Research. She co-edits the book series Changing Mobilities and leads interdisciplinary projects on decarbonising transport, disaster mobilities, and ethical IT innovation.
Her research integrates phenomenology, ethnomethodology, and science and technology studies to explore the digital dimensions of mobile lives. Key focus areas include distributed collaboration, informational mobilities, and co-production of socio-technical futures, with methodologies combining mobile ethnography, design practices, and public sociology.
Monika’s recent work addresses informationalization in emergency response, emphasizing social media engagement, data protection, and community-driven resilience. She has supervised PhDs on topics like Weibo crisis communication, slow cycling utopias, and locative art practices.
