Monica Schneider is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at Miami University, within the College of Arts and Science. She holds a Ph.D. in American Politics and Methodology from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and a B.A. in Psychology from Northwestern University. Her academic work bridges political psychology, American politics, and issues of gender, race, and disability.

Her research focuses on the underrepresentation of women and marginalized groups in political life, examining stereotypes, political ambition, and the influence of gendered social roles. Recently, she has extended her scholarship to disability policy and ableism, exploring public opinion on disability assistance and the political identity of caregivers. She is passionate about mentoring underrepresented scholars and has created a mentoring conference in her sub-discipline.
Her recent publications span topics such as role modeling and candidate emergence, gender targeting in political communication, and bias in public opinion during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. These works reflect a consistent focus on identity, perception, and structural barriers in political participation.
She has received multiple scientific awards, including the Political Research Quarterly Best Article Award and the Distinguished Junior Scholars Award from the APSA Political Psychology Section. Her research has been supported by the National Science Foundation and the TESS program.
Monica Schneider actively mentors faculty and has led initiatives to support underrepresented groups in political science. She teaches core courses such as the American Political System, Gender, Politics & Policy, and U.S. Campaigns and Elections. She is not involved in a formal lab or team, but her collaborative research projects suggest strong scholarly networks in political psychology and gender studies.
