Monica Perez is a Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Northwestern University and Scientific Chair of the Arms + Hands Lab at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. Her research focuses on spinal cord injury (SCI), neural plasticity, and spasticity, with over 15 years of experience studying cortical and spinal neuronal circuits in healthy individuals and those with SCI.
Dr. Perez earned her PhD in 2003 from the University of Miami. She has developed innovative experimental methods to investigate transmission in cortical and spinal circuits during motor behaviors, aiming to advance targeted neurorehabilitation therapies for SCI patients and other populations.
Labs and Teams: She leads the Arms + Hands Lab at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, which is part of Northwestern University's Core Facilities (Analytical bioNanoTechnology Equipment Core and Peptide Synthesis Core).
