Monica Mureșanu

Monica Mureșanu serves as a University Lecturer at the Department of Technical Sciences within the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Architecture and Urbanism 'Ion Mincu' in Bucharest, Romania. She holds a Dr.arch. degree and maintains active academic engagement through research projects, publications, and international collaborations. Her professional affiliations include membership in the ARCH TECH LAB project team, the Circular City Challenge project, and the Palimpsest Cities Erasmus+ project.

Dr. Mureșanu's research interests span architectural heritage conservation, urban identity formation in post-communist contexts, the relationship between tourism and built heritage, sustainable architectural practices, and built environment education. Her work demonstrates a particular focus on Bucharest's urban landscape and Transylvanian architecture, examining how historical influences shape contemporary urban spaces. She explores the tension between preservation needs and development pressures, especially regarding how tourism impacts heritage sites.

Her scholarly output reveals consistent thematic development across more than a decade of research, with evolving focus from post-communist urban transformations to contemporary challenges in heritage conservation and sustainable urban development. Recent publications show increased attention to educational approaches for engaging younger generations with the built environment and innovative materials in sustainable construction.

Dr. Mureșanu has been actively involved in numerous research projects including ARCH TECH LAB (2019-2020), Sustainable LAB (2022), infrastructure development for architectural technologies (2022), the Circular City Challenge project (2022-2025), and the Palimpsest Cities Erasmus+ project (2022-2024). She has also served as a mentor in the Urban up! Grows up Fellowship program and as a consultant for the UAUIM student team in the Solar Decathlon project.

Her academic activities extend to international teaching engagements, having served as a Guest Professor at Karlshochschule International University in Karlsruhe, Germany (2018-2019, 2019-2020) and through Erasmus+ teaching mobility at HKU University of the Arts in Utrecht, Netherlands (2019). She has organized numerous workshops including the 'Dilema satelor săsești' series and the 'Decodificarea orasului' workshop, demonstrating strong commitment to practical architectural education and community engagement.
