Monica Hansen

Dr. Monica Hansen is Assistant Professor, Graduate Program Chair, Director, and Advisor for the Reading PK-12 Masters Program at the University of Nebraska at Kearney's Teacher Education department. Her work centers on the intersection of literacy, brain development, and cognitive neuroscience.

With teaching experience spanning PreK-12 levels across Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, and Washington state (as both high school English and preschool teacher), her research explores how developmental processes and literacy intertwine, emphasizing support for diverse learners. She teaches courses in the science of reading, inclusive literacy, and philosophy of education.

Dr. Hansen holds a Ph.D. in Education (Literacy/Neuroscience) from the University of Idaho (2013), M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Idaho (2008), B.A. in Secondary Education-English from University of Wyoming (1994), and A.A. in Education from Western Wyoming Community College (1992).
