Monica Felipe-Sotelo

Dr. Monica Felipe-Sotelo is a Lecturer in Radiation and Analytical Chemistry at the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Surrey. Her research focuses on the characterization of radionuclide solid phases, development of spectral databases, and investigation of radionuclide behavior under environmental conditions.

Her primary research interests involve the creation of reliable spectral databases for characterizing radionuclide solid phases, investigation of radionuclide mineralization under environmental and repository conditions, comprehensive characterization of solid phases using multiple spectroscopic techniques (XRD, EXAFS, XANES, TRLFS, FTIR, Raman, and ion beam techniques), and the study of radionuclide dynamics in environmental systems. She has developed purification procedures for determining radionuclides at ultra-trace levels using ICP-MS and investigated methods for removing isobaric interferences in analytical measurements.

Her publication record shows a strong trend toward environmental chemistry applications, particularly in microplastics research, nuclear waste management, and analytical methods development. Recent work has expanded into biomedical applications of phosphate-based glasses for wound healing and tissue regeneration, demonstrating the interdisciplinary nature of her research.
