Mona Maalouf is an Associate Professor of Instruction and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Iowa's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She earned her Maitrise degree in chemistry from the Lebanese University in 1990 and a PhD from the University of Iowa while working in Dr. David Wiemer’s laboratory.

Mona’s research interests during her PhD focused on organic synthesis applications in biochemistry, specifically targeting the mevalonate pathway through organophosphorus compound design. Her teaching career spans institutions across Lebanon and the U.S., including visiting roles at Lebanese American University and Denison University.
Currently, she leads the laboratory component of freshman chemistry courses at the University of Iowa. Her professional trajectory reflects expertise in both synthetic chemistry and pedagogical development within STEM education.
