Dr. Mona M. Choucair is a Senior Lecturer at Baylor University holding dual appointments in the School of Education and College of Arts & Sciences (English Department). She teaches American Literature survey courses, advanced grammar, Young Adult Literature, and Secondary Methods courses while supervising secondary teaching interns.
Her educational background includes:
- B.A. in English and secondary teaching certificate from Baylor University
- M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies of English & Humanities from University of Dallas
- Ph.D. from Baylor University
Dr. Choucair's research advocates for integrating Young Adult Literature into secondary English curricula and examines Contemporary Minority Women writers. Her dissertation 'Whose Culture Are You Bearing: Searching for Self' analyzes Toni Morrison's novels including Beloved, Song of Solomon, and Paradise, with ongoing seminar instruction on Morrison's works.
She received the Collins Outstanding Professor of the Year Award in 2008, voted by Baylor's senior class. Professional service includes Councilor for Council for College Teachers of English, South Central Modern Language Association membership, and College Board AP English exam leadership roles.
As Faculty in Residence at South Russell Hall, she mentors students beyond the classroom. Community involvement spans LEAF literacy tutoring, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and One Book One Waco initiatives through First United Methodist Church.
