Dr. Mona Ghassemi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas, affiliated with the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. She leads the ZEROES Lab, focusing on advancing Transportation Electrification, Clean Energy, Electrical Insulation Materials, and Plasma Science. Her research addresses challenges in high-voltage engineering for all-electric aircraft, lunar power systems, and resilient power grids.
Education: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (University of Tehran, 2012). Awards include the NSF CAREER Award and AFOSR Young Investigator Award. Current projects include optimizing MVDC cables for low-pressure aircraft environments and developing high-power-density insulation systems.
Research interests emphasize
- Medium Voltage DC (MVDC) systems for aviation
- Dielectric materials under extreme conditions
- Grid hardening against hurricanes
- Unconventional transmission line designs
Recent work highlights advancements in electrical insulation resilience, plasma diagnostics, and sustainable power systems. Over 150 publications span topics like partial discharge analysis, corona inception, and high-frequency power electronics packaging.
Advising 12 PhD students in projects such as lunar power cable prototypes and WBG power module encapsulation. Active in technical committees like DEIS and collaborates on NASA’s N3-X aircraft DC power system designs.
