Mona Attwa is an Associate Teaching Professor of Arabic and Arabic Language Coordinator at the University of Colorado Boulder. She specializes in sociolinguistics, language pedagogy, and the sociocultural dynamics of Arabic use. Her research examines identity, globalization impacts on Arabic communication, and innovative methods for teaching Arabic as a foreign language.
Education: PhD in Sociolinguistics from Tilburg University (The Netherlands), focusing on globalization and superdiversity effects on pan-Arab communication through analysis of a TV show. Previous teaching roles include The American University in Cairo, Leiden University, and The International Language Institute (Cairo).
Research Interests: Focuses on sociolinguistics, e-Arabic (digital communication), language choice, identity/ideology, and pedagogical strategies for Arabic instruction. Active in machine translation and publishing sectors.
Key Publications: Explores religious discourse in Arabic media (Religions, 2021), digital Arabic writing practices (forthcoming I-LanD Journal), and pan-Arab linguistic identity (AIDA Proceedings, 2019).
