Dr. Moiz Usmani is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), part of the School of Engineering. He specializes in environmental health, epidemiology, and the impacts of climate change on public health. His research focuses on understanding how environmental factors influence the spread of infectious diseases, particularly through interdisciplinary approaches combining remote sensing, predictive modeling, and environmental monitoring.
Dr. Usmani holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering Sciences from the University of Florida, an M. Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, and a B. Tech from Uttar Pradesh Technical University. His work integrates geosciences with public health to address global challenges such as waterborne diseases and pandemic prediction.
His research interests include climate variability’s effects on disease transmission, predictive intelligence systems for infectious diseases, and the development of early warning frameworks for cholera and other pathogens. His publications highlight innovative methods like the Normalized Vibrio Index and satellite-based risk assessments to enhance public health preparedness.
Notable trends in his work emphasize climate-environmental linkages, predictive modeling for respiratory and waterborne infections, and leveraging Earth observation data for decision-making. He collaborates on projects to improve pandemic preparedness and environmental resilience, particularly in coastal regions vulnerable to climate change impacts.
