Mohsen Shafizadeh is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Sport and Physical Activity, part of the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences at Sheffield Hallam University. He joined the institution in 2012 and teaches courses in skill acquisition, performance analysis, and research methods. His research focuses on motor control, neuro-rehabilitation, and aging-related mobility challenges, applying dynamic systems theory to enhance rehabilitation and performance. He leads projects funded by UKRI and NHS, including digital resistance exercise systems for stroke rehabilitation and wearable technologies for dementia care.
- Education: PhD in Motor Behavior (2004), Postdoc at University College London (2012)
Research interests span movement re-acquisition in neurological conditions, aging physiology, and the application of ecological-dynamic theories to talent development. His work bridges clinical and sport contexts, with recent studies on gait variability in older adults and stroke survivors’ motor synergies.
Key grants include investigations into home-based exercise for stroke rehabilitation and digital assessment tools in sport science education. He supervises PhD projects on neurological condition interventions and fall prevention strategies.
Publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches, such as wearable sensor applications for disabled athletes and systematic reviews on motor learning interventions for older adults with dementia.
