Dr. Mohsen Seifi serves as a Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology at De Montfort University's Leicester School of Pharmacy since 2020, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Pharmacy MPharm and MSc programs. His academic foundation includes a BSc (Hons) and PhD in Neuropharmacology from the University of Portsmouth, followed by a lectureship at Southampton Solent University where he co-designed their Biomedical Science degree.
His educational credentials:
- BSc (Hons) Pharmacology, University of Portsmouth
- PhD in Neuropharmacology, University of Portsmouth
Dr. Seifi's research investigates how emotional stress and aging disrupt neurotransmitter systems in neural networks, driving pathologies in Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, anxiety disorders, and gastrointestinal conditions like IBD and IBS. His lab employs histology, molecular biology, electrophysiology, transgenic models, and behavioral assays to identify therapeutic targets within these altered communication pathways.
He secured Alzheimer's Research UK funding as Principal Investigator for a Pump Prime Grant (2020-2021; £5,000) on Syndapin-2's role in Aβ clearance and as named applicant for a Pilot Grant (2015-2017; £47,000) characterizing enteric nervous system dysfunction in Alzheimer's. Additional recognition includes the Guarantors of Brain Travel Award and FENS Travel Grant, while he serves as a research evaluator for Parkinson's UK grant reviews.
Affiliated with the Leicester Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation for Integrated Care (LIPIIC), Dr. Seifi holds a Home Office animal licence and maintains active membership in the British Neuroscience Association and Alzheimer’s Research UK Southcoast Network.
