Mohsen Moheimany is a PhD candidate in Political Science and International Relations at Dublin City University (DCU), Ireland. His research focuses on civil society and political participation in Iran, particularly examining the role of advocacy NGOs within the hybrid regime structure of the Islamic Republic. He previously served as a Tutor for the 'Research Methods' module for first-year International Relations students at DCU (2013/2014). His academic background includes an MA in Public Policy from the University of Nottingham (2012) and a BA in Political Science from the University of Tehran (2010).
His research explores how political opportunities for NGOs vary across government levels, policy sectors, and presidential ideologies in Iran. Key areas of study include women’s rights and environmental protection NGOs, analyzing their policy influence through case studies spanning the Khatami and Ahmadinejad presidencies. He argues that Iran’s hybrid regime creates distinct policy networks that constrain or enable advocacy efforts depending on contextual factors.
Moheimany’s publications address Iran’s civil society dynamics, authoritarianism, and comparative political movements (e.g., Turkey). He has presented at conferences such as BRISMES and contributed to outlets like Affari Internazionali and the Middle East Institute. His work emphasizes methodological triangulation to navigate Iran’s challenging research environment.
