Dr. Mohan 'Moe' Gupta is an Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology at Iowa State University. He holds a B.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Kansas. After postdoctoral training at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School, he transitioned to faculty roles at the University of Chicago and joined Iowa State in 2015. His lab investigates microtubule dynamics, focusing on their roles in cell division, neurogenesis, and disease mechanisms like tubulinopathies and cancer therapy targets.
Research interests include kinesin motor proteins, spindle assembly checkpoints, and tubulin isoform functions. Key techniques involve live-cell imaging, biochemistry, and yeast models. The lab has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles, including work on TUBB3 mutations in neurological disorders and TUBB8 in oocyte meiosis. Current projects explore how microtubule regulators control cellular processes across scales, from single molecules to whole-cell organization.
Lab members include graduate students (e.g., Abesh Bera, Maliha Jahan) and undergraduates (e.g., Grace Hagedorn, Shandra Truong). Collaborations span institutions like Yale, Stanford, and Harvard. The lab’s work bridges basic research with clinical implications in cancer and neurodevelopmental disorders.
