Mohamud Awil Mohamed is a Ph.D. Candidate and Fontaine Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Arts & Sciences, Department of History. He is also a researcher at the Schoenberg Database of Manuscripts. His work bridges Islamic legal traditions (sharīʿah and xeer) with collective memory in Bilād al-Ṣūmāl, examining Salafism, sacred spaces, and transnational education networks. Mohamed holds a B.A. in History from Augsburg University and an M.A. in Heritage Studies from the University of Minnesota, supported by FLAS and Mellon Fellowships.
