Dr. Mohammed M. Ali is a Research Fellow at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation (ADI) within Deakin University's Faculty of Arts and Education. He holds a PhD in Criminology from Griffith University (2023), a Graduate Diploma in Psychology from Deakin University, and a Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) from RMIT University. His research focuses on criminology and forensic psychology, particularly addressing culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Key research areas include attitudes toward legal authorities, pathways into/out of violence, and crime prevention strategies. He has been awarded the 2023 Allen Austin Bartholomew Award for outstanding research in criminology.
Dr. Ali's work has been published in journals like Policing and Society, Psychology, Crime & Law, and Psychiatry, Psychology, and Law. His grants include the National Research Project Phase 2 (2025–2026) and projects addressing educational needs of African-Australian youth and justice-involved Pasifika communities. He supervises doctoral candidates exploring South Sudanese youth crime drivers and the relationship between social/emotional wellbeing and justice involvement.
