Mohammadreza Aghaei

Mohammadreza Aghaei is a Senior Researcher and Project Coordinator at the Department of Ocean Operations and Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, NTNU. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy (2016), and has held roles including Postdoctoral Scientist at Fraunhofer ISE, Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB)-PVcomB, and Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). He served as a Senior Lecturer and Professor at the University of Freiburg (2017–2019) and later conducted postdoctoral research at TU/e.

His research focuses on Smart building/grid integration, Photovoltaics, Renewable Energy Systems, Energy Transition, and Digital Twin technologies, with expertise in Energy Flexibility and AI-driven autonomous monitoring. He coordinates the EU Horizon 2020 project COLLECTiEF (Collective Intelligence for Energy Flexibility) and has contributed to numerous national and EU-funded projects.

Key achievements include authoring publications on energy systems and smart infrastructure. He is an IEEE Senior Member and actively collaborates with global institutions, advancing sustainable energy solutions.
