Dr. Mohammadhossein Ravanbakhsh is a Researcher at Utrecht University's Ecology and Biodiversity department, focusing on sustainable plant production strategies through plant-microbe interactions. His work combines microbial ecology, plant physiology, and ecosystem management to address climatic challenges like drought and heavy metal contamination. He holds a PhD from Utrecht University (2018) and has extensive experience in Iran and the Netherlands, including roles at Fars Research Center and as a startup founder.
Research highlights include developing microbiome-based solutions for plant stress tolerance, editing plant traits via microbial engineering, and enhancing water-use efficiency under drought. Key outputs include 7 peer-reviewed papers (avg. IF 8), book chapters on dryland sustainability, and industry collaborations.
Teaching includes courses at Utrecht University and prior roles as a lecturer in Iran. Supervised 3 PhD, 6 MSc, and 8 BSc students. Awards include UNESCO grants and NWO funding. Active in international conferences with keynote lectures on microbial solutions for agriculture and hidden hunger.
