Dr. Mohammad Radfar is an Associate Professor of Sustainable Urban Design and Planning at the University of Birmingham’s School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, based at the Dubai Campus. His expertise spans urban design, landscape architecture, and environmental planning, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches to sustainable urban development. He investigates public spaces, social sustainability, cognitive cities, and the interplay of design, culture, and placemaking.
Teaching contributions include leading postgraduate modules such as Urban Design and Property Management, Sustainable Cities, and Urban Lives. His research explores human-scale urban environments, cross-cultural design principles, and the role of analogue/digital communication in public behavior analysis.
Recent publications address austerity’s impact on planning reforms and the influence of environmental elements on housing markets. Collaborations include work with the Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation on social sustainability in Ras Al Khaimah.
