The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houstonمعرفی
Dr. Mohammad Milad is a Professor and John S. Dunn Endowed Chair in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston), McGovern Medical School. He serves as Executive Director of the Center for Affective Neuroscience and Computations, Vice Chair for Behavioral Neuroscience Research, and Training Director of the Neuroimaging Fellowship Program.
- PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience, Ponce School of Medicine
- Post-doctoral training, Harvard Medical School & Massachusetts General Hospital
His research integrates neuroimaging and computational neuroscience to investigate fear learning and control mechanisms in the human brain, with particular focus on women's mental health and estrogen's role in fear regulation. This work examines how dysregulation in these neural systems contributes to anxiety disorders and PTSD, addressing critical sex-specific differences in psychopathology.
Dr. Milad has received continuous funding from NIH, DOD, and private foundations supporting his innovative research. His work bridges basic neuroscience with clinical applications through:
- Development of computational models of fear extinction
- Investigation of hormonal modulation of neural circuits
- Translational studies linking brain mechanisms to clinical symptoms
His significant contributions to the field are recognized through the prestigious John S. Dunn Endowed Chair appointment.
As Vice Chair for Behavioral Neuroscience Research and Training Director of the Neuroimaging Fellowship Program, Dr. Milad oversees substantial research infrastructure and mentors next-generation scientists. His Center for Affective Neuroscience and Computations provides state-of-the-art resources for fMRI, computational modeling, and longitudinal behavioral studies focused on emotion regulation mechanisms.
