Mohammad Hossan

Mohammad Hossan is an Associate Professor and Interim Director of Engineering at the Department of Engineering and Physics, University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). His work bridges biomedical engineering, micro/nanofluidics, and pedagogical innovation.

• Education: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (2013, Washington State University); MS in Industrial Management (2009) and MS in Mechanical Engineering (2008) from South Dakota State University; BS in Mechanical Engineering (2002, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology).

Research Interests focus on biomedical fluidic devices to understand vascular diseases like aneurysms and develop bioresorbable flow diverters. His work combines hemodynamic regulation, vascular network remodeling, and micro/nanofluidic technologies. He also pioneers engineering education research, emphasizing low-cost desktop learning modules and active learning techniques.

Recent Publications highlight advancements in laser micromachining, oscillatory shear stress effects on TGF-β1 activation, and electric field-driven microfluidic pumping, underscoring his interdisciplinary approach.

• Scientific Awards: UCO Faculty Merit Credit Research Awards (2021, 2019, 2017); NIH OK-INBRE Mentorship (2014–2021); UCO Digital Central Academy Award (2014); NSF-ASME Travel Award (2012); APS Travel Award (2011).

Grants include NIH OK-INBRE RPI grants for bioresorbable flow diverters, NSF IUSE collaborative grants for desktop learning modules, and multiple UCO interdisciplinary grants. He mentors 6+ undergraduates annually and trains Fulbright scholars, NIH/FED SM summer students, and J1 visiting researchers.
