Mohammad Helmy

Mohammad Helmy serves as Clinical Professor and Body Imaging Chief in the Department of Radiological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. He also holds key leadership positions including Medical Director of Ultrasound/Abdominal Imaging, Director of Medical Student Education, and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs/Clinical.

Dr. Helmy specializes in abdominal imaging, emergency radiology, diagnostic ultrasound, and medical education. His clinical interests encompass body imaging, computed tomography (CT) scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound diagnostics. Fluent in Spanish, Arabic, and English, he provides care across multiple UCI Health facilities including the UCI Medical Center in Orange and the Gottschalk Medical Plaza in Irvine.

His research focuses on advancing diagnostic imaging techniques, particularly in abdominal ultrasound applications, with recent publications examining renal transplant complications, spleen measurement techniques for cirrhosis diagnosis, and MRI studies of bladder dysfunction. Dr. Helmy has been instrumental in integrating artificial intelligence into radiology education, as reflected in his 2022 publication on this evolving field.

Among his extensive honors, Dr. Helmy has received the Orange County Medical Association Physician of Excellence Award (2020) and multiple Dean's Teaching Awards from UC Irvine School of Medicine spanning from 2014 through 2019.
