Mohammad Ghafari

Mohammad Ghafari is a Professor for Secure IT Systems at the Technical University of Clausthal, Germany, since 2022. Previously, he served as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland (2020-2022), a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Bern (2016-2020), and a PhD student/research assistant at Politecnico di Milano (2012-2015). He leads the Secure Software Engineering (SSE) research group and offers office hours by appointment.

Research Interests focus on Secure Software Engineering, emphasizing Usable Security and Empirical Studies. His work bridges software engineering practices with cybersecurity and user-centric security solutions.

Professional Services include serving on program committees for conferences such as SANER (2023-2026), MSR (2024-2026), ICSME (2025), EASE (2025), SCAM (2022, 2024), and acting as Guest Editor for the Journal of Software: Evolution and Process (2023). He was Vice President of the CHOOSE special interest group (2019-2020).
