Dr. Mohammad Bitar is an Associate Professor in Finance at the University of Nottingham Business School, affiliated with the Department of Finance, Accounting and Banking. He joined NUBS in 2019 after roles as a Scholar in Residence at the John Molson School of Business, Concordia University (Canada), and postdoctoral fellowships at the David O'Brien Center for Sustainable Enterprise (Montreal) and the Research Center Dedicated to Banking and Finance (Limoges, France).
Research Interests span finance, Islamic banking, corporate social responsibility (CSR), bank risk-taking, corruption, capital decisions, financial stability, and institutional impacts during crises like COVID-19. His work explores legal origins, cultural influences on banking, and policy frameworks for sustainable finance.
Notable Publications include studies on CSR in reducing banking corruption, legal systems' influence on banking practices, and the role of Shari’ah supervision in deterring financial misconduct. His research has been cited as top 10% on SSRN, with awards like the 2016 SAB Best Paper.
Teaching includes bank risk management, financial markets, and advanced statistics courses at NUBS, John Molson School of Business, and Grenoble Alps University.
