Mohamed Gadala is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia (Faculty of Applied Science). His research focuses on advanced computational methods and industrial applications in mechanics, including finite element analysis, fracture mechanics, and inverse problems in heat transfer.
- Education: B.Sc. from Cairo University, Ph.D. from McMaster University
Gadala’s work spans multiple domains of mechanical engineering, emphasizing:
- Nonlinear dynamics and fracture mechanics via Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) formulations
- Crack detection and propagation monitoring in rotating machinery
- Optimization of steel cooling processes on run-out tables
- Behavior analysis of piezoelectric actuators under fatigue conditions
His recent publications (2010-2013) highlight applications of finite element modeling in thermal systems, fluid mechanics, and structural diagnostics. His research bridges theoretical computation with practical industrial solutions, particularly in mechanical diagnostics and material processing.
