Mohamed Esa is a Professor in the Department of World Languages, Literatures & Cultures at McDaniel College, where he teaches German language, literature, and culture, as well as interdisciplinary courses in fairy tales, food studies, Arab-American literature, and Islam. He earned his doctorate in German Studies from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and is recognized nationally and internationally for his innovative pedagogy and scholarship.
His research interests include German music, proverbs and idioms, short films, and the application of technology in foreign language education. He has conducted workshops across the United States, Canada, and Europe on integrating music, storytelling, and digital tools into language classrooms.
Dr. Esa has received numerous accolades for his teaching and community engagement, including the Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Ira G. Zepp Distinguished Teaching Award. His leadership extends to professional service as past president of the American Association of Teachers of German and the Maryland Foreign Language Association.
