Dr. Mobarak Hossain is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Previously, he served as a Postdoctoral Prize Research Fellow at Nuffield College, University of Oxford, where he earned his DPhil (PhD) in 2022. His research focuses on comparative education policies, social and educational inequalities, social mobility, and the role of international organizations in policy diffusion within low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). He employs quantitative methods to analyze global trends in educational systems, school autonomy, and cross-border policy influences.
Dr. Hossain is affiliated with Nuffield College, Young Lives, the International Inequalities Institute, and serves as an Associate Editor for European Societies and editorial board member of the British Journal of Sociology of Education. He co-organizes the LSE's Education Policy and Research in International Perspective seminar series. His work addresses critical issues such as intergenerational mobility, refugee education challenges, and the impact of World Bank policies on education systems in LMICs.
Teaching responsibilities include the SP432 Education Policy, Reform and Financing course at LSE. His research outputs span journals like the American Journal of Education, British Journal of Sociology, and Sociology of Education, with a focus on global educational equity and governance.
